Uber sent an email to its users alerting them of new safety features available in the Uber app, as well as reiterating their plan to improve safety. This comes only after a CNN investigation into public court documents revealed over 100 cases of passengers assaulted and sexually assaulted by Uber drivers.

June 1, 2018: Uber failed to institute thorough background checks and hired thousands of convicts as drivers. The company is under fire for failing to institute full background checks, misleading statements about the strength of background checks, and for failing to protect passengers from sexual assault. Uber has previously settled with District Attorneys from Los Angeles and San Francisco for misleading safety statements, and is being sued for sharing a rape survivors medical records among top executives.

Uber announced April 2018 it would add a new “911” emergency feature to it’s app, the feature is now live in their app in the United States. Within the Uber app is a new “safety center” menu.

Monsanto Company faces possible punitive damages if the jury agrees the cancer was caused by Roundup and Monsanto hid the risks.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) released a new warning regarding Benzocaine (also known as Orajel, Baby Orajel, Anbesol, Hurricane and other brands) which are marketed as a pain reliever in teething babies:

An adolescent, previously healthy woman went to the Emergency Room complaining of several days of cough, chest pain and increasing difficulty breathing.

A 38 year old man from St. Petersburg, Florida was killed when a vape mod device exploded in his face. The official cause of death was a projectile wound to the head.

Uber and Lyft announced an end to their previous practice of forcing survivors of driver on passenger sexual assault into mandatory arbitration. Uber and Lyft’s mandatory arbitration clauses required survivors of sexual assault to handle resolution out of court. This means survivors could not sue due to the terms of service inside the app.

On May 10, 2018 the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) sent 4 letters to manufactures of vape e-liquid regarding 3 products with packaging that mimics popular children’s food.

The FDA published this press release noting their ongoing efforts to prevent children and youth from confusing vape e-juice products with candy and juice. The FDA released 13 warning letters regarding dangerous nicotine products that can be mistaken for children’s candy or other food products due to deceptive packaging design.
